What time are your classes?

With our students' busy schedules and hectic lives, it's important that we have flexibile times available for them. That's why we're open 5 days per week with class times for kids in the afternoon and evening. Teens and adults will find our class times convenient and late enough to get off work or finish school. We also have Saturday classes beginning in the morning around 9 AM and ending around noon.

What are the ages you teach?

Our Lil' Dragons program is age specific for 4 - 6 year olds with our Kids Karate program available for children ages 7 - 12. We also offer teen and adult classes in Kempo Karate or Mixed Martial Arts.

What are the belt ranks and why do they differ?

The first belt you will begin with will be the white belt. Then comes yellow, orange, blue, green, advanced green, purple, advanced purple, brown, advanced brown, red, advanced red, and black. (Our Lil' Dragons program has its own ranking structure) Junior students receive a Jr. Black Belt and can continue on in our Kids Karate program to reach 4th Degree Jr. Black Belt. Teens can also achieve a high ranking in our Kempo Karate program with a 3rd Degree Teen Black Belt. Adults in our Kempo Karate program can continue to progress as high as 5th Degree Senior Black Belt

Our belt ranking system helps children, teens, and adults to be able to chart their progress. Through the belt ranking system, students learn about setting goals, self-displine to achieve those goals, and perseverance for sticking to that goal.

How long will it take to achieve a Black Belt?

With consistent class attendance and enrollment into the Black Belt Training program, usually our students reach Black Belt level in 3 - 4 years.

Am I too old to start martial arts? I have had injuries in the past, can you still teach me?

We have and have had students in their 40's, 50's, and even 60's. We believe in safety first, which means we can work around your physical limitations to help you achieve the highest sucess possible in martial arts!

Do you teach weapons training?

We do teach weapons in our Black Belt Training and Masters Training programs. The various weapons we teach include the Bo (bo staff), the Jo, the Keibo (escrima), the Nunchaku, the Yawara (kubuton), the Cane, the Double Keibo (double escrima), Double Nunchucks, Kamas, the Knife (teen and adult students only), and the Sword.

Will my child get bored with your program?

Our Team knows that kids need a high energy class that will challenge and motivate them to do their best, which is why classes are taught in a fast paced and exciting way!

On top of that, most kids get bored because they can see no progress. Unlike other sports such as football or baseball, we have a built in system for motivation which is through our testing and belt ranking system.

Each month, children will be tested over the material they have learned. Once tested over this material they will earn a red stripe on the tip of their belt. After earning three red stripes, they are ready to graduate to their next belt. Our graduation ceremony is an awesome event that friends and family attend to congratulate their family member on their most recent accomplishment.

Doesn't martial arts (karate) teach children to be violent? My child has a temper, should I withold putting him in karate until he settles down?

On the contrary! The Team at Seigler's Karate Center is dedicated to teaching children how to resolve conflicts non-violently. We do this by talking with children about self-control, courtesy, and respect. Children learn that martial arts should only be used in a self-defense situation. Martial arts is also designed to teach children how to control their emotions, which is why we have helped hundreds of kids with anger issues.

Aren't injuries more prone to occur in karate?

As with any physical excercise program, injuries could occur. But our Team knows safety matters first! We strive to make our method of teaching the safest and best structured in the Augusta, GA area. This means we will always consider your individual health issues before asking you to do something that could cause you injury.
